Patricia Carpio (Whiting), 1940-2010, was the first Filipino woman elected to the Oregon State Legislature, serving three terms from 1972-1978. Patricia Whiting died at age 69 on July 1, 2010 of cancer. She is survived by her husband Vincent Whiting.
Hello, Dear book…it is July ’69. Vince & I have been married for eight months upon venturing to Tahoe last October. We have been leaving in [two words illegible] midst tall pine, animals & the beauty of solitude. I did not [illegible] to Europe last summer, Vince thought he would be working in the area of the Bay – but that also did not [illegible] completely. In mid summer he bought me a kitten. All winter it was Cap, the cat, Vince & I. Our paths here led us to Oregon for Vince’s Future Ed. Due to the military [rejecting?] Vince of active duty. We are not getting settles but in the transition, cat was lost. A bit of me feels [naked?] pain. There is also the feeling of the gentle, flowing river that is Vince & my being… a slower, more even flow of action & thought seeps into this complex being that now writes… This winter felt the passing of beloved Mac…& yet to this day his wisdom and his compassion are with me…the world lost a great man… My Vince is trying real hard & accomplishing starting our core & support & an educational opportunity for himself. This everyday he realized his new found ability & exercized it successfully: he [illegible] an old motor setup to make me a much desired ceramic [illegible]. Life, you are beautiful…
