Patricia Carpio (Whiting), 1940-2010, was the first Filipino woman elected to the Oregon State Legislature, serving three terms from 1972-1978. Patricia Whiting died at age 69 on July 1, 2010 of cancer. She is survived by her husband Vincent Whiting.
Friday, November 22, 1963 This day 10:55 in Dallas Texas President Kennedy & John Conolly of Texas has been shot. The attempted assassination has left both alive but in critical condition. The one man who is totally concerned about American, [illegible] equality, foreign aid and friendship has been shot. What will happen to our country now. [two words illegible], segregationists, are moving in. The Negro will have a greater struggle, old people will not receive {illegible] aid, youth will not be able to [illegible] in a liberal environment. 11:20 ABC-TV = Kennedy shot in the head. [illegible] has been called for last right. Ratical rightists! Twelve [illegible]: Attempted [illegible]: white male – about 30 years of age. The president is dea. A secret service man was killed. The governor was shot in the back. 12:00 N.Y: 9/10 of population appear uninformed. 1/10 that knows are bitterly weeping and have emotionally [illegible] into tears. In Rome: [two words illegible] John Connolly & in great pain. 12:45 Lindon Johnson – may you lead America along the path of Kennedy’s free world policy? Mrs. K. [two words illegible] to Washington to their children. The strength gained by all who love [illegible] will stay with them for a long time – I am one of [those?].
